Hermes arceau le temps suspendu

Original painting size: 78 x 115 cm

The Hermès Arceau Le Temps Suspendu is a watch renowned for its unique “time suspended” poetic complication, which allows the wearer to playfully pause the display of time and then instantly return the hands to the correct time. The watch, first launched in 2011 and updated in 2025, celebrates a philosophical approach to time as a companion rather than a constraint.

Key Features and Complication

The central feature of the Hermès Arceau Le Temps Suspendu is its patented “Time Suspended” function, an exclusive horological module developed for Hermès by Jean-Marc Wiederrecht’s Agenhor.

  • Suspending Time: With a single press of a pusher on the case, the hour and minute hands fly back to a position around the 12 o’clock mark to hide the time, while the internal movement continues to run seamlessly in the background.
  • Resuming Time: Pressing the pusher again instantly makes the hands spring back to the current, correct time.
  • Retrograde Functions: The watch features 360-degree retrograde hour and minute mechanisms. Some versions also include a retrograde date hand or a playful, counter-clockwise rotating small seconds subdial, adding to its whimsical character.
  • Movement: The watch is powered by a Manufacture Hermès self-winding movement (such as the H1837 or H1912 calibre) with the special “Time Suspended” module, visible through the anti-glare sapphire case-back.
